The Subtle Mind Not 2 Stress
Discuss the connection of the spiritual wellness to mental and physical wellness. Explain how the connection is manifested in your personal life.
Cross training is a great description explaining the connection of spiritual wellness to mental and physical wellness. As a martial artist I can relate to these aspects of well being. I must train my mind to deal with the pain sometimes inflicted as a result of my training. Pain may originate in our peripheral nerves, but our experience of pain takes place in the mind (Dacher, 2006). Pain varies for everyone according to the mental attitude of the individual. The mental training offers various techniques for relaxing which reduces the perception of pain. I have used meditation for relaxing the body allowing the reduction of my pain. Because I started the martial arts at a young age I learned how to stay focus on the task at hand and multi-task without losing focus. I use my children also as examples.
My youngest son was just awarded the Ironman award at drill sergeant school as I said before. He started training in the martial arts with me at 4 years old. I truly believe that the training was what got him where he has gotten so far in his young life. It’s not the physical training of the martial arts that got him there it’s the mental training that got him there. Without the mind the body won’t function to its best. My oldest son also started with me at age 5 and he has also accomplished so much at 25 years old. He’s a correction officer today, but has been a police officer for the city of Avalon New Jersey. He is waiting for the state police application to open because that is his dream and he is one step closer in getting there. My daughter is working in Florida and getting ready to go back to school. She is in Florida hoping to find something different than New Jersey has to offer. After a year if thing don’t go as planned then she’ll come back home to work for me. Allowing my children to go out into the world with the training they’ve had has giving them the edge I see them having. I know they will do find as the martial arts has done for me.

Sports are a great way to train the body and the mind. That's interesting how you and your kids did martial arts together. I have never done karate. I was into gymnastics as a child/preteen. I really need to exercise more. I liked reading about your family and the way you connected the assignment to your life. Here's a little about me. I am 25 years old and I am studying to be a nutritionist. My boyfriend, Cirrell, and I live together with our 2 cats. I have two older brothers, Matt and Drew. Matt is an engineer and Drew is a cop. My dad was a lawyer and my mom worked for the state but they are both unemployed right now. I don't have any kids but I hope to one day. I am working as a manager at Blockbuster. It's not a career but it's something I enjoy doing because I love watching movies.

I loved the comment that you restated about pain taking place in our minds. This is so true. Pain is all perception. I used this philosophy during birth. My first birth was horrific and I was in so much pain. I just wanted drugs to not feel anything. This experience needless to say did not make me feel very happy about the whole birth. I then did lots of research when I had my second child to not feel like that again. Since then I have had 2 other children. No drugs and no pain. When I say no pain I mean childbirth of course isn't a walk in the park, but I literally did not feel pain that I couldn't deal with. I learned to use focusing techniques and breathing techniques along with hypno-birthing and even biofeedback to take away all of the negative pain to deliver my children pain free and drug free. I had very intense and long labors, but all of them increasingly in my opinion got easier and all of them were much better than the first. Pain is all what we perceive it is in our mind. I went in labor with the mind set that this was going to be uncomfortable, but not unbearable and I convinced myself of this fact.
